The Daily Grind
This all started as a simple exercise that I started doing every morning. No great work is accomplished without the daily practices of smaller works. I wanted to practice getting better each and every day. First, Know Thyself.
Life is busy, there are thousands of decisions to be made, and each day is a series of battles between seeing, thinking, and doing. I had been out of the habit of taking time to stop and just feel. This exercise was my way of taking a few minutes every day to focus on one concept that normally I might not address on a regular day.
Tarot offers us a landscape that is related to the perceptions beyond the eye. It both reflects and refracts, giving and receiving. Our understanding relates to symbols and deeper meanings accessible to our imaginal perception. It is not what the Tarot cards do TO you but what the Tarot cards can do FOR you.
First thing every morning I shuffle my Tarot deck and draw one random card to use as the 'Card for the Day'. My companion and guide for the daily grind today; a theme, an opportunity, a warning, or simply some area of focus I can reflect upon for the day. Keeping it close to my heart and mind and using it for greater awareness.
As I worked a little every day to find something within myself to work on I noticed that some days the cards didn't appear to be as much for me as they were for someone that was close to me or someone I had met throughout the course of the day. Many times the card helped me to give others an alternate viewpoint.
I started to see how many of us are on similar paths or have similar goals. No doubt that we are all interconnected and that we all come from the same source. Understanding that what I do directly and indirectly affects others and what others do impacts my life as well. I wanted to share this exercise with you in hopes that you too may find daily guidance and motivation.
I cannot tell you what the symbols mean to you only what they mean to me. I cannot tell you what you will find during your search only where to begin looking. Each person is in charge of their own destiny while at the same time having the ability to help others progress in theirs.
What I do today improves myself and my community. This was the original goal of these exercises, to broaden and heighten my awareness of the universe around me and my place in it. It takes practice and hard work and is a path I still take every day.
What you do today improves yourself and your community. You have already done and accomplished so much that you may never know about. Come on a journey with me and see if these exercises can help you to improve your understanding.
